Product Information

CDEL spending – departmental spending on investment projects and capital grants – as a share of GDP declined as a result of the post-financial crisis cuts pencilled in by the Labour Government and confirmed by the Coalition in the 2010 Spending Review. It then remained broadly flat until 2020-21, where decisions to significantly increase investment in the March 2020 Budget resulted in CDEL spending as a share of GDP increasing. The 2022 Autumn Statement announced that nominal CDEL spending would be kept flat in cash terms from 2025-26 onwards, which results in a decline in spending as a share of GDP.
