I have read and understand no Grateful Dead titles since 2012 use HDCD peak extension and Neil obviously isn’t using it anymore, but if only due to the Dead, there are a LOT of titles out there HDCD encoded with peak extension. Going forward, we will not be able to hear a small part of this music.

The companion set – Official Release Series Disc 8.5-12 – would contain the next four albums, so that is CD editions of American Stars & Bars, Comes A Time, Rust Never Sleeps, Live Rust and Long May You Run. Speak not because it is safe, but because it is right.— Edward Snowden (@Snowden) February 11, 2017 The state of HDCD and how Microsoft has let it go is a real argument for investing as consumers only in vinyl, FLAC, WAVE, AIFF, CDs, and MP3s. Credited to the Stills-Young Band, the 1976 album Long May You Run is a collaboration between Neil Young and Stephen Stills.as for the 5 - 12 albums only a few of the 13 were previously HDCD and all of the new ones were not. at the time it was never explained why these things were done, and as far as i know it still has not been explained. archives one, archives two, original release series 5 -8 and original release series 8.5 -12 are all out of print and selling for silly money. Features Elvis Costello, Crosby Stills & Nash, Sheryl Crow, Josh Groban, Ben Harper, Elton John, Norah Jones, Lady Antebellum, Dave Matthews, James Taylor, Keith Urban, and others.

The Official Release Series Disc 5-8 box set was issued on vinyl in November 2014 and a four-CD equivalent would feature a superb collection of sought-after Young, including On The Beach (1974), Time Fades Away (1973), Tonight’s The Night (1975) and Zuma (1975). century and widely bootlegged, the album is considered to be the "Holy Grail" of all Neil Young albums. This is a real argument against investing as consumers in basically proprietary technologies like HDCD, DVD-A and SACD, or any corporation’s pet format, like Apple and ALAC. (I don’t care about when the patent expires. No one is going to be producing SACD encoders if Sony isn’t still in that game. The same is true of any “open source” format heavily sponsored by only a single corporation.) On yesterday's Times-Contrarian | NYA, Neil Young writes about how it has been 50 years since the album Time Fades Away was released and now a CD should be released?! officially released. Those interested in obtaining a legal copy of Time Fades Away were urged to sign the petition.

Awaiting repress titles are in the process of being repressed by the label. No ETA is available at this time. And to be crystal clear here, no one is complaining and everyone is grateful that these recordings are finally seeing the light of day regardless of whether an OBS or OPS or whatever series. The first official CD release of “Time fades Away” comes in the four CD box set “Official Release Series Discs 5-8”. Now if you don’t know “Time Fades Away” – well, it isn’t “Harvest”. In fact it was the first of the “Ditch” trilogy. Neil Young thought that with “Harvest” he was in “the Middle of the road” and he would rather be in “the ditch”. And “Time Fades Away” is a live album and it is totally raw – Neil’s vocals are not perfect and the production values are basic. Has Neil or Reprise ever said anything about repressing these boxes? Or releasing the remasters as individual CDs?in terms of possibilities, someone put together an alternate mix of TFA from various other dates which we found to be pretty cool. It included an amazingly outrageous version of Last Dance that went on forever. In terms of availability/rarity, On The Beach was eventually issued on CD for the first time in 2003 but Time Fades Away has never been released on the format and Tonight’s The Night and Zuma are both long overdue a reissue.
