Say Her Name is the story of Bloody Mary, or better yet what happens when you call her. In the boarding school were Bobbie and Naya go to, the legend of Bloody Mary comes to life when, in a Halloween dare, they decide to say her name, along with a local boy. What follows is pure mayhem as they realize that Bloody Mary is actually a real ghost that will come for their lives after five days. In the mean time they all experience parts of Mary's lives. Seeing glimpses of her life, Bobbie decides that Mary is a ghost that wants her side of the story heard and probably her very own killer punished. So Bobbie and the other two embark on a mystery solving journey to figure out what happened to Mary and who killed her. All the while trying to avoid the ghost that wants to claim their lives. I wish I had more than 5 stars to give "Say Her Name"...I wish I could give it to everyone who has lost a loved one. I wish you'd get a copy and enjoy it for the next several days. It's a magnificient book. The tension build gradually and the descriptions were really graphics and I could visualise everything happening to our MC. Blood, cursed boarding school, spirits, ghosts, Halloween, dripping taps, graveyards, psychiatric hospital, asylum, crypt, nightmares… everything was present to play with my mind. The best part about this book was the humour throughout. Bobbie is quite a cynical, wry character and I loved her observations. They were a bit of relief from the whole going-to-die theme. And they stopped it being too much.

Needless to say, the book fulfilled it's horrific aim. I was -- and am scared. I enjoyed the story and Bobbie's spunky, shy girl personality. And that ending? Great. I recommend this to anyone who's brave enough (or at least not a scaredy cat like me). What’s most glaring and intentional about Crenshaw and AAPF’s approach to this heartbreaking, necessary and significant contribution to history is the spotlighting of the many unsung names most of us have never heard: Denise Hawkins (killed November 11, 1975). I’m so happy I chose this book to bring to a close this October project, it really gave me the spooky vibe I needed for Halloween and therefore, I can say that this project was a success. Even though I enjoy books with dark and evil characters, I rarely find myself reading horror, because I don’t get easily scared so I don’t want it to be a waste of my time. And this book wasn’t scary to the point that I could cry or scream in terror, but it did a good job giving me goosebumps. I had the misfortune of being alone in my apartment those very nights I read it, and after ending it, I had a hard time falling asleep, went to take a shower to relax myself and I didn’t dare to look myself in the mirror. Yeah it was late night, the night before Halloween, but still I, not-so-easily-creeped-person, was not at my best. Now, I'm usually not a fan of horror. All that doom-and-gloom and usually a dose of pure gore and violence... Not my cup of tea. And although this book made my toes curl and make me "Eeek!" plenty of times and made sure that I haven't looked in a mirror since I started it, I was definitely a fan of this one. Like mentioned in Say Her Name, the Supernatural episode. That episode aired in, what? 2005. That would make me 12. The only scariest thing I'd seen up until then was the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters. Y así fue.Say Her Name" is a magnificent tribute to Goldman's love, Aura, his precious young wife of only 4 years. Her life affected him in such a way as to brand his heart and soul eternally, and he shows that in an eloquence of language and writing that is timeless, heart-wrenching, and a memorial of their relationship. My first impression of this book was that it was magnificent. I could only read a tiny bit at a time because of the crushing weight of the loss that the author experienced after the untimely death of his wife. The book gets two stars for this part alone. The rest was crap. And for this epic line, I am giving this book 5.1 STARS. Because, 5 is a bad number to go with this book, trust me, people! And the punchline would have done it in for you! Ah, but then the author starts giving out descriptions about arms and evil faces emerging from reflective surfaces. I honestly screamed when I thought I saw something in my reflection (PS, it was my curly hair). Soon enough I was feeling creeped out and shaky. I had to stop for a bathroom break and had to sing Christian tunes to keep my imagination from running wild.
