Description

It has a built-in sauté function, although there isn’t a huge amount of surface area to sauté too many ingredients simultaneously. This 501014 Saute and Soup Maker from the Morphy Richards kitchen appliances brand is designed to provide a simple way to make soups and stews.

I have both of these models and have really put them to work so feel I am in a good position to comment on the pros and cons of each. The inside of the soup maker has a coating, which you can effectively fry onions, butter, garlic and any vegetables you fancy on it. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

I am hoping to introduce an automatic serving adjustment to all my recipes very soon so it will make it much easier for you to recalculate. I agree a soup maker is one of those gadgets that seems gimmicky at first – I mean, why would you need a dedicated appliance instead of just making it in a pan on the hob? If your soup is a little too chunky for your liking, just press the blend button until the texture of the soup is to your taste.

The Morphy Richards Total Control also has a saut é function, as well as the ability to make smaller portion sizes. My Morphy Richards (just purchased) soup maker is the compact model which makes a maximum of 1000ml each time. I want to do another update to this guide for 2021 so I'm interested in feedback on both the positives and negatives on all models! If a signature is required, the courier may leave a card in the same location with rebooking or self-collection details. You must keep the lid on for this function to work (unlike with the 501014, where the lid must stay off). This is the latest soup maker from Morphy Richards and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it to test it out! This is perfect for adding in some last-minute ingredients like fresh herbs – or, like me, if you forget to add something in at the beginning! Like many other models, it has a 1000-watt heating power enabling it to make soup in around 20 minutes, and the thermal glass jar will keep it warmer for longer. The only thing I would advise strongly is to chop everything up quite small and never exceed the Max level.

Of course you might not be bothered about sautéing your ingredients – and that is perfectly fine too. It makes great soup and was much used and that's why I persevered but the third one - just out of warranty again - is blowing the main electrical circuit board in my home and I can see from other comments it's a common problem. AB31-38, AB41-45, AB51-56, BT, IV3-40, KW1-14, PA20-40, PH19-40, PH50, IV41-51, IV55-56, Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, the Scottish Highlands and outlying Islands, Outer Hebrides, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Scilly Isles.

b) As I test so many soups for both this blog and my books, I wanted a model that could make smaller quantities. Using it is straightforward, just pop in your chopped-up ingredients with the required liquid and start either the ‘chunky’ or ‘smooth’ program. The soup maker also features a pause function which allows you to remove the lid part way through the cooking cycle, add herbs, spices or seasoning and when you reapply the lid the program will remember the time that is left and finish the cooking cycle. The unit looks and feels very similar to a large kettle and won't take up too much space on the kitchen worktop or in a cupboard.

I tried both ways, and found that if I didn’t use hot, I had to do a double cycle more often to cook ingredients thoroughly. There’s a blend function for if the soup isn’t smooth enough for you, and the last one is the juicer function, which I have to admit, I haven’t used with this soup maker yet. Starch and sugars present in some food may stick to the base of the jug if placed in direct contact. But when you use sautéed ingredients the soup will produce a much more robust and influential flavour.
