Our personalized EQ actually dialed down the headphone’s bass slightly compared to turning the EQ off.

NOTE: I was using and still do on occasions the XM4 from Sony and even though the ANC is miles better then the Crushers, I like the sound of the Crushers more as it's strong and you can actually FEEL the music which for me is what I was after.I couldn’t hear every single thing he was doing or him talking to me, but I could hear rustles of packets, clinks of spoons and cupboard doors shutting. And now back to those sporadic dropouts in Bluetooth connection and persistent noises, not to mention that annoying crackling that kicks in when the device is switched on and off.

Crusher’s auricles could have been a bit bigger for my taste, as when seated, my ears are partly under the pads. You can choose an estimated sound profile based on your birth year, having to do with averaging hearing loss based on age, and not zodiac signs. The headphones output audio via a pair of 40mm drivers, and even before I engaged the sensory bass function, it became clear that Skullcandy’s reputation for deeply resonant bass is alive and well with the Crusher ANC 2. Reproduction or copying of any content from this site is strictly prohibited without prior permission. The frankly absurd frequency response of these headphones can amplify some rather unpleasant frequencies in some songs or produce undesirable effects with songs that are already mixed with louder bass. These also come with a hard-shell case, one that ensures you're not going to puncture padding, nor dent them in any way when they're tossed in a bag. Skullcandy has thrown so much into the Crusher ANC 2 that I was disappointed to not see a kitchen sink mentioned in the specs list. The sound is altogether fine, but I can think of cheaper headphones on the market that express more radiance. However, if you're looking for a more substantial sound experience, personalized options, haptic feedback and some of the best sounding Skullcandy's we've tried, it's certainly worth taking a look at the Crusher ANC if you feel comfortable springing for the extra cost.

Over-ear headphones, by and large, opt for safe and sophisticated design, with the only slight injection of personality coming in the form of subtle accents. I listened to the track side-by-side on the Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 and an older pair of Sony WH-1000XM3 (the predecessor to the five-star XM4, which have now been succeeded by the new XM5) and from the opening word of ‘Don’t’ the Sony pair had far greater impact, with Billie’s voice being the clear standout of the whole arrangement. Each earcup houses vibration motors that activate in time with the music’s bass notes to create a more visceral audio experience by adding physical sensations to auditory ones. The company claims you’ll get 50 hours of playback time with ANC turned on, and I’m inclined to believe it.ANC is good for my liking some people might report that there is background noise and stuff but for me I don't hear anything when music is playing. Disabling Crusher mode altogether provides a more conventional listening experience, and still with plenty of bass for most people.

Buttons are on the right ear, located very close to each other, and they're a bit difficult to find by feel. Without the vibrations, my skull may not have been rattled, but my timbers were most definitely shivered. The company says this new model takes the bass response loved by many from the predecessor and adds active noise cancellation (ANC). To test out the audio capabilities, I listened to a variety of music genres, from dance and house music, to more melancholy ballads and even some death metal.
