Description

Quartz bulbs don't care AC or DC 50 Hz or kHz, however with kHz supply often a limit to length of cable to ensure it does not become a radio transmitter, and fitting any diode in the circuit is also likely to cause it to turn into a transmitter. as a direct consequence of increased switching frequency can therefore be viewed as negligible. When erratic disruptions in the I had transformers on all my downlights when I moved in, several transformers had gone, slowly I replaced them all with 240V LEDs (like these: https://www.screwfix.com/p/enlite-e8cx-fixed-fire-rated-led-downlight-without-bezel-580-620lm-8w-220-240v/3631x). Not sure why bathroom lights have stopped working - loft is actually freezing at the mo now winter is starting to set in. A term used to compare LED light bulbs with their incandescent alternatives. An LED light bulb with an equivalent wattage of 35W is a direct replacement for a 35W incandescent light bulb. This is different from a light bulb’s stated wattage ( see below).

The output waveform of several electronic transformers for 12VAC MR16 lighting was measured using a Tektronix

I'd place the transformer centrally to keep the LV cable runs short - the longest would need to be about 1.5m. the expected 12V). This is a common error even with pros. A Electronic transformer chops up the load side freqeency between 20k-100k Hertz. The common digital multi-meter is set to read between 50-60 Hertz. This makes reading or testing electronic transformers practically impossible if relying on a multi-meter. Instead, just take a basic working MR16 halogen and test it directly to the electronic transformer. If it works the transformer should be okay. load input of the wirewound transformer can be seen to be a simple 50 Hz sine wave. In contrast, the electronic

Not sure what you mean by splitter, if more than 1 light is run off a single output of the transformer you may well overload it. The high frequency switching cycles are seen to stop and resume at irregular times within the 100 Hz wave envelope.Electronic 12VAC halogen transformers can vary significantly in design and consequently in how they respond (or do not respond) to different loads.

Nice one thanks. think I'll give replacing the transformer as it is a go and then if that doesn't work I'll look to replace them with LEDs - maybe yours - I like how you can change the colour temperature of them - keep an eye out for a post from me on this forum if i do haha! I currently have down lights with Osram decode 51s (12V 50W) halogen bulbs. Each light has a dimmable 60VA transformer connected. Could you please advise on a suitable replacement dimmable LED bulb? Halogen bulbs claim to last 2000hrs (2 years average), but it’s more like 1000. Some GU10 LEDs claim 24,000hrs, but that’s an even bigger lie! However, the EU implemented a law in 2014 – LEDs now must last at least 6000hrs, so they last 3x longer than halogens, minimum (more like 6x longer or more)!Lamp info is here: https://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-gu5-...d=294407#product_additional_details_container Yes, the transformer has 4 outputs but the bathroom lights are actually pre-wired into a splitter so i only need to use 1 output on the transformer to the splitter if that makes sense? series to give the necessary resistance for the transformer to work. All wiring in homes is done in parallel, never series. Many MR16’s & G4’s are sold as 3 on a transformer. If you have several MR16’s say 4 sets of 3 (12 total), could you simply connect all 12 new LED bulbs to 1 transformer (assuming that all 12 now draw the load required for 1 transformer)? The LED light bulbs we sell operate on a UK standard 240V AC, and the light bulbs have a built-in transformer to change this 240V to the LED required voltage.
