On 23 June 2013, Cox tweeted a picture to announce she had just married her long-term boyfriend and fiancé Ben Cyzer. [40] Advocacy [ edit ] The Bitterest Pill". Britfilms.com. 20 February 2007. Archived from the original on 11 August 2007 . Retrieved 9 March 2011.

This story has Sara’s voice ringing true throughout. A fresh, cheeky, insightful take on how change can happen through female friendships.’ DAWN FRENCH The inhabitants of the Inventor's Housing Estate keep themselves to themselves. There are the friendly 'Hellos' when commutes coincide and the odd cheeky eye roll when the wine bottles clank in number 7's wheelie bin, but it's not exactly Ramsay Street. Moore, Matthew (11 January 2018). "Women take over top shows in Radio 2 revamp". The Times . Retrieved 3 January 2022. The inhabitants of the Inventor's Housing Estate keep themselves to themselves. But the neighbours come together to try out a new skill, under the watchful eye of their charismatic teacher, Sasha. Concealed heartaches and passions are uncovered, relationships shattered and formed and the possibility for transformation is revealed. Sara Cox – Presenters". Troikatalent.com. Archived from the original on 8 April 2009 . Retrieved 9 March 2011.The above is basically the story. It is somewhat predictable and mildly scattered with jokey female sexual references that are slightly on the cringeworthy side. There is no suspense at all, but then again it is not a thriller, so I am not sure which genre it would fall into. Maybe we could say it is inoffensive and definitely well researched as far as the pottery is concerned, but otherwise quite bland. My only sight criticism is it was a little predictable at times but it was such a fun read I didn’t mind that too much. Radio 2 DJ Sara Cox has come a long way since the 1990s when Channel 4’s The Girlie Show made her one of the original ladettes. In 2019, her memoir Till the Cows Come Home: A Lancashire Childhood became a critical and commercial success; now comes a debut novel, Thrown. Tapping knowledge gleaned while presenting The Great Pottery Throw Down and grappling with themes from loneliness to infertility, it’s a funny, touching story of four very different women who meet at a ceramics class on a housing estate near Manchester. Yin-Poole, Wesley (30 November 2014). "WipEout: The rise and fall of Sony Studio Liverpool". Eurogamer. Hendry, Steve (29 September 2013). "Radio star Sara Cox dreamed of marrying George Michael.. now she can't wait to host new show celebrating the 80s". Daily Record . Retrieved 6 October 2013.

Jameela: All she's ever done is work hard, and try her best. Why won't life give her the one thing she really wants? Get this: my cleaner has organised them by colour. It’s not great and I’m too polite to say anything. I don’t know why I’m whispering – I don’t think she reads the Observer. In July 2007, Cox presented London Live on Channel 4, and appeared as a guest star on the Sky1 show Angela and Friends in November 2009 [20] and as guest presenter in January 2010. [21] Also in 2010, she appeared as a team captain on What Do Kids Know? along with Rufus Hound and Joe Swash on the Watch channel. [22]The bra wire was currently jabbing her left breast every time she breathed in and, today of all days, she’d need to take some deep breaths. Thrown centres around 4 women in a small village in England who join a pottery class in their local community centre and form bonds as their past and problems come to light. Told from alternate perspectives of the characters, this one, despite some heavy subject matter in parts, is a very light and also enjoyable read. Grocott, Matthew (17 May 2021). "Sara Cox replaces Rylan Clark Neal as UK Semi Final commentator". ESCBubble . Retrieved 1 June 2021. Cox won her first television show role in 1996, presenting the early "Girl Power" show The Girlie Show on Channel 4. [7] She later had stints on Channel 5 entertainment show Exclusive and Channel 4 music programme Born Sloppy. In 1997 Cox presented on the UK feed of MTV, hosting MTV Hot, a late-night music show. In 1998 Cox won her first film role in The Bitterest Pill. [8] [9]Well observed, and clearly drawing on the authors experience of presenting a pottery show, with one exception, the men do rather badly. It took me a while to realise the significance of the title, as most of the women are literally 'thrown' by their discoveries. As an argument for the therapeutic powers of pot-throwing, it’s certainly effective. But as the opening salvo from Cox the novelist, it’s distinctly less convincing. Although she supposedly switches between four different points of view, her third-person narration remains in the same brisk voice – sometimes humorous, seldom distinctive. So why not reduce the cast list and add more depth to the characterisation?

In August 2000, Cox said during a live broadcast that the Queen Mother "smelled of wee". [10] 2003–2008 [ edit ] The metaphor of pottery is perfect for Thrown. Not only do many characters find themselves thrown by events, but they themselves are like the items made in the community centre. Some are more perfect than others. Many have flaws. Some are broken and every single person is unique. What I found so successful too, is the fact that at the end of the book, not every single plot element is resolved; just like real life not everyone gets a happy ending or knows exactly what will happen next. On 1 July 2022, it was announced that, in September, Cox would extend her drivetime show by an hour to run from 4–7pm to coincide with Scott Mills joining the station on a permanent basis to present from 2–4pm. [19] Television [ edit ] Nonsense.’ He frowned. ‘You can handle this – it’s a pottery class you’re organising not a military coup. It’s a positive thing, people will love it. They need something like this to bring them together a bit.’

The story was getting increasingly ridiculous and was really resembling a soap opera more than a well-written novel, so that's why I've decided to finish off here. I won't leave a star review, because it doesn't seem right if I haven't even read to the end.
